What Determines the Cost of Refinishing Hardwood Floors?
When The FloorMan makes an estimate for the cost to refinish hardwood floors, many factors go into that quote.
Remember that you are not only paying for professional-quality labor and the experience that comes with that (although it is probably the largest part of the cost). There are transportation expenses involved, too. That is, although one day we may only be there for a couple of hours and then leave while we wait for the polyurethane to dry, each trip is time- and gas-consuming.
An important factor also is that we have the right machines and other tools for the job.
The quote for the cost to refinish a hardwood floor we present to you typically includes all materials. And believe me, these add up quickly. We use three different grades of sandpaper, going over the floor three times, sanding finer each time. This is the only way to do the job properly.
The stain is an additional cost, of course. And finally, and most expensive, there is the commerical grade polyurethane finish – and that should take at least two coats.
These products are quite costly, especially if the poly is a water-based product, which is quicker-drying and less odiferous.
So remember that we are giving you an fair price based on honestly considered input factors.
And it's worth it to have it done right!
